RareDiseaseDay: In Solidarity with Patients - Advancing Research Against Leukemia Relapse

We stand in solidarity with patients and families affected by rare diseases, including rare forms of blood cancer such as certain types of leukemia. MIRACLE research teams are dedicated to understanding why leukemia can return after treatment, and importantly, how we can prevent this from happening.

One of the greatest challenges in leukemia care is measurable residual disease (MRD): Small numbers of hidden leukemia cells that survive therapy and may ultimately drive relapse. For patients with rare bloodcancers, relapse often means limited treatment options and significant uncertainty. By uniting scientists from across Europe and training the next generation of researchers, MIRACLE aims to unravel the biology of these therapy-resistant cells and translate this knowledge into more precise, effective, and less toxic treatments.

Every step forward in research has the potential to make a meaningful difference for patients living with rare diseases. MIRACLE-Leukemia is a MSCA doctoral network and aims to combat MRD to improve leukemia treatment. MIRACLE stands for "Integrated multi-angle research and training network to eradicate leukemia minimal residual disease." 
Our network consists of 22 partners and employs 10 doctoral candidates that will perform cutting-edge studies across academic and industrial settings while having training in multidisciplinary and transferable skills. MSCA means ‘Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions’, a European programme that funds and trains young researchers to work together across countries and find new solutions to health and science challenges.
